Thanksgiving Football: Pennridge, Quakertown Rivalry Takes Center Stage

Thanksgiving morning marks the return of a beloved Bucks County high school football tradition as Pennridge High School football takes on Quakertown football.

This rivalry has captivated fans since 1930, bringing together two proud programs in one of the area’s longest-running matchups.

While Pennridge leads the all-time series 58-31-5, Quakertown, under head coach George Banas, has dominated in recent years, winning the last three games.

Banas could make history with a sixth Thanksgiving victory, becoming Quakertown’s most successful Turkey Day coach.

His team enters the game after sharing the Suburban One League Liberty Division title and a playoff appearance in the District One Class 6A bracket.

Quakertown’s offensive power centers on junior quarterback Brady Martin, who set school records with 144 completions and 1,929 passing yards this season.

Senior receivers Aiden Burgy and Matt Thomas have been dynamic, with Burgy securing 48 catches for 886 yards and 14 touchdowns—another school record.

On defense, junior linebacker Jackson Connelly leads with 66 tackles and 13 for loss, while senior Gavin Carroll contributes both offensively and defensively with 693 rushing yards and a school-record 41 tackles for loss in his career.

Pennridge High School football, led by second-year head coach Kyle Beller, aims to snap Quakertown’s streak.

Key contributors include junior running back William Dougherty, with 531 rushing yards and five touchdowns, and junior quarterback Noah Keating, who will make his third start in the Thanksgiving rivalry.

On defense, senior linebacker Trevor Fuhs anchors the unit with 98 tackles, including 17 for loss, while junior Ryan Rowe has 91 tackles to his name.

Quakertown (6-5) enters the game following a strong season capped by a playoff berth. Pennridge (4-6) had highlights of its own, including an 18-13 win over district playoff contender Pennsbury.

Both teams are set to add another exciting chapter to this historic rivalry.

After all, Thanksgiving Day wouldn’t be complete without Bucks County high school football, and the Pennridge vs. Quakertown showdown promises to deliver the excitement fans have come to expect.
