National Weather Service Issues Fire Weather Watch for Bucks County Through Saturday Evening

Date:

April 14, 2026

A fire weather watch was issued over the weekend for Bucks County and nearby areas, including Carbon and Northampton counties.

The National Weather Service sounded the alarm early in the morning on Saturday, with warnings in place right up until 8pm that night.

Weather Conditions Create Fire Risk

Forecasters said that dangerous weather conditions meant that any fires could spread rapidly, with neighboring areas in South Pennsylvania at risk. The public were asked to avoid all outdoor burning activities.

Humidity values were expected to drop by as much as 35% on Saturday afternoon, while strong northwesterly winds sparked the worry that the fires could easily get out of control.

Experts also warned about the drying of fine fuels, which would have escalated the risk of fire spreading throughout the area.

Fire Weather Watch Monitoring Events in South Pennsylvania

The fire weather watch covers numerous countries in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Eastern and Western Chester are included, as are Philadelphia, Delaware, Carbon, Northampton, Berks, Monroe, Lehigh, Western and Eastern Montgomery, and Upper and Lower Bucks counties.

The forecast keeps a close eye on a range of factors, including land, fuel and meteorological conditions, and works in conjunction with state fire officials.

By Saturday night, officials said that the conditions were forecast to improve, with the winds losing strength and humidity increasing.

Outdoor Burning Advised Against

Authorities strongly discouraged outdoor burning during the weekend while the fire weather watch continued.

Residents were asked to be mindful of anything that could potentially ignite a fire, such as discarded cigarette butts.

Officials reminded people that strong winds combined with dry conditions can create a perfect storm where what usually seems like an insignificant ignition source, such as a discarded cigarette butt, could increase the risk of a quickly spreading fire overwhelming firefighters.

Regional Weather Pattern Affects Multiple Areas

Despite the fire weather watch covering much of southeastern Pennsylvania, weather conditions vary so much across the region that each county was expected to combat different hazards over the weekend.

Some regions, such as Lower Bucks, had to guard against wintry conditions on Saturday, while others dealt with the threat of spreading fires.

The National Weather Service warning system is in place to coordinate emergency response across different jurisdictions each time weather conditions put the public at risk

Fire Weather Watches vs. Warnings

A fire weather watch gives warning that weather conditions are expected to take place that could lead to fires getting out of control. It asks residents to be cautious and usually advises against outdoor burning activities.

A fire weather warning is a stronger message that is issued whenever fire weather conditions are critical or they’re forecast to commence within the next 24 hours.

State fire officials coordinate with the fire weather watch, allowing emergency responders and fire departments enough time to respond before the dangerous weather escalates, causing fires to spread beyond their control.
