The Newtown Athletic Club announced a new initiative to support the 1,000 active police officers in Bucks County and their families by giving them a three-month family membership at the NAC beginning now until the end of the summer.

“My inspiration for doing this came from attending a banquet in their honor arranged by NAC community member Christina Nelson, who founded the Fuel the Force Program, which provides free lunches to police officers throughout the county,” said NAC owner Jim Worthington. “This program is growing quickly and is supported by local restaurants. I thought if she could step up and support law enforcement, so could I.”

He added, “Interacting with these brave men and women in blue, it occurred to me that a membership at the NAC could provide some much-needed recreation, relaxation and socialization, as well as the chance to maintain a fit and healthy lifestyle.”

This initiative represents the largest donation in the history of the NAC, about $1.1 million. Any police officers and their families who are currently members of the NAC may also receive this benefit.

“This is our way of thanking the men and women in blue for the dedication and sacrifice they make each and every day to keep our communities safe. Never shall we take them for granted and if enjoying the services and experiences we have to offer at the NAC gives them some respite from the duties they perform with such bravery, then this will be the success I hope for,” said Worthington.
