Women & girls invited to join Women’s Brigade in Langhorne Memorial Day Parade

Participants are encouraged to wear white to honor those who marched on Washington in 1913 and 1917

The Langhorne Women’s Centennial Committee and Langhorne Council for the Arts invite women and girls of all ages to join the Women’s Brigade as it marches in the 2021 Langhorne Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 31, at the Jesse Soby American Legion Post on W. Richardson Ave.

The ceremony to honor veterans begins at 9 a.m. Leaving from this location, the parade travels through the borough, stopping and starting (for traffic flow on state roads) for approximately 2 miles, ending at the same location. Masks are not required.

In the marches on Washington in 1913 and 1917, women wore white dresses, skirts and blouses, showing they were educated (college gowns). Newspapers only printed in black and white, so olive, brown and black would not show up. To honor those brave and determined women, members of the brigade are encouraged to wear white (dresses, pants, shorts, tops – whatever you have). Fancy hats and sashes are welcomed. Bring your mothers, sisters, daughters and girlfriends to join the brigade.
