Ferry Market, Stella and more reopen

Favorite spots in scenic New Hope have opened their doors in time for summer

Favorite local spots in New Hope are now open, just in time for summer. Ghost Light Inn, the boutique hotel on the Delaware River at 50 S. Main Street, and its in-house restaurant Stella by Jose Garces; as well as the Carriage House of New Hope, a three-bedroom historic inn at 8 E. Mechanic Street; and Ferry Market, the gourmet artisanal market at 32 S. Main Street, are all making a comeback after the coronavirus pandemic.

The pet-friendly inn is open as a refreshing respite. It offers 12 rooms on-site and three in the adjacent Carriage House. The Inn was rebuilt to preserve the history and integrity of the original building, which dates back to 1956. Each room is unique, with decorative flourishes, comfortable furnishings and scenic views. Riverside rooms feature Juliet balconies, which allow guests to view the river in privacy. The inn is next door to Bucks County Playhouse. Owners purchased 60 additional red Adirondack chairs and lined them up, with sufficient distancing, along the riverwalk for guests and visitors to enjoy panoramic views of the river.

The dining room and patio at Stella are open Wednesday through Sunday, from 4 to 10 p.m. Take-out options are also available. With culinary dishes prepared by in-house chef Michael O’Hallaran and craft cocktails by bar manager Jamie Shaw, the summer menu focuses on nearby farms and other community partners.

“It is our honor to support farmers and vendors who supply much of the food for our dishes,” said O’Hallaran. “It’s a beautiful thing when neighbors can help each other.”

Sample dishes from Stella’s menu include the new pickled beet salad and the returning favorite, spaghetti pie.

Carriage House of New Hope has retained historic charm with the original stone walls and fireplace, as well as river views that are said to transport guests back in time.

A hybrid of an inn and home rental, Carriage House comes with a full-time concierge, and the space features personal design touches. Bedrooms feature high-end Garnier-Thiebaut linens and tech offerings including free wi-fi, a “smart” thermostat and Netflix. In the morning, guests enjoy complimentary, in-room coffee and tea.

The Ferry Market, opened in 2016, is a gourmet artisanal market and culinary destination with ample indoor and outdoor seating. Offering fresh and healthy food, drinks and snacks, Ferry Market is open Wednesday to Monday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Vendors include Sciascia Confections, Sky Roast Coffee, Unionville Vineyards and Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company.
