The Bucks County Community College Foundation is holding its 17th annual Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea Event on Friday, April 19, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Newtown Campus, 275 Swamp Road.
The afternoon raises scholarship funds for current student mothers who attend Bucks County Community College. Guests of the event will enjoy a tented tea affair situated within the Tyler Gardens. They’ll be served classic gourmet tea sandwiches, tea and desserts. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite springtime hats. Live entertainment will be provided by violinist and vocalist Claudia Pellegrini.
Tickets are $65 and can be purchased at salutetomothers.net.
“As someone who works directly with the people this scholarship supports, it is particularly meaningful to continue serving on this committee and carry on the great work Betty Tsai started 17 years ago,” said Amy Masgay, Office of Student Affairs, Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea Planning Committee member. “The generosity of last year’s Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea attendees and contributors allowed us to support 34 Bucks students in their pursuit of higher education. I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together this year.”
In 2007, faculty member Betty Tsai noticed mothers struggling to raise their families while pursuing a college education. This observation was the crux that motivated Tsai to do something to help them. Since its creation, the Salute to Mothers Scholarship Tea Event has raised $285,000, representing 185 scholarships.
