John Scavelli was recently appointed to the role of business manager by the Bristol Township school board. His first day will be Jan. 3, 2023.
As business manager, Scavelli’s main function is to oversee the finances of the district and see that funds are spent appropriately to support the overall education of students. This includes oversight of all budget, accounting, purchasing and payroll functions. He will also oversee transportation, facilities, food services and other enterprise activities.
Scavelli is currently the interim school business administrator and board secretary at Berlin Borough School District and brings extensive experience to Bristol Township. He started his career in education in 1988 as a high school math teacher, and served as an assistant football and wrestling coach.
“I enjoyed teaching and coaching, but was encouraged and supported by several seasoned administrators to pursue a leadership role very early in my career,” said Scavelli, who has worked as a school business administrator for 17 years and superintendent for 14 years.
He graduated from Glassboro State College with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in school business administration. Additionally, he earned the following certificates from the New Jersey Department of Education: School Administrator, School Business Administrator and Teacher of Mathematics.
Scavelli said he is humbled by the opportunity to work in Bristol Township School District and will do his best to serve the community.
“I enjoy seeing students succeed and I truly believe that one of the pillars of a successful school district is a solid financial foundation,” said Scavelli. “I believe my experience as a central office administrator will serve the district and the new superintendent well. I am looking forward to becoming part of a great team.”
For the first several months in the district, Scavelli will focus on learning about the district and its needs, as well as preparing for the 2023-24 budget.
“John will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to his role as business manager,” said Superintendent Michael Nitti. “The district is looking forward to welcoming him to the team and collaborating together in the new year.”
