Fitzpatrick re-elected

U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick defeated Democrat Ashley Ehasz, taking 55 percent of the vote

U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick defeated Democrat Ashley Ehasz, taking 55 percent of the vote.

National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Emmer released the following statement regarding the results:

“Congratulations to Brian Fitzpatrick on his decisive victory. Democrats simply can’t compete with Brian’s lengthy record of reaching across the aisle to get things done for his district, which he will continue to do in the next Congress.”

In other races, state Sen. Steve Santarsiero defeated Republican challenger Matthew McCullough with 58 percent of the vote.

State Rep. Frank Farry, a Republican, won a Senate seat, beating Democrat Ann Marie Mitchell and Libertarian Brandon Bentrim with 53 percent of the vote. Farry will replace retiring Sen. Tommy Tomlinson.

Republicans will hold a 28-22 advantage in the Senate.

Farry’s House seat looks like it will go to Democrat Mark Moffa, who holds a two-vote lead on Republican Joseph Hogan.

Republican Rep. K.C. Tomlinson appears to have beaten Democrat Laurie Smith, with 52 percent of the vote.

Republicans also won the seat being vacated by Rep. Wendi Thomas. The GOP’s Kristin Marcell took 57 percent against Democrat Ilya Breyman.

Democratic Rep. Tina Davis earned 64 percent to beat Republican Kelly Bellerby-Allen and Libertarian Anthony Portillo.

Democratic Rep. John Galloway was unopposed.

Democrats look like they will win control of the House, thanks largely to a new map drawn by a commission chairman appointed by the Democratic-controlled state Supreme Court.
