Greenwood Racing announces new group vice president/legal and chief counsel

Karin Ashford has joined the company, which operates Parx Casino

Greenwood Racing Inc., which operates Bensalem’s Parx Casino, announced that Karin Ashford has joined the company as group vice president/legal and chief counsel. Ashford succeeds Thomas Bonner, who has held that position since 2006 and has now been appointed executive vice president and special counsel.

Ashford is a veteran gaming industry attorney and, since 2004, has been advising Penn National Gaming Inc. most recently as its vice president, legal and business affairs. Prior to Penn National Gaming, she worked as a litigation associate at Stevens & Lee in Reading, and Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York. She received both her BA and law degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

In her new role, Ashford will oversee the legal, regulatory, compliance and risk management functions of the company and its subsidiaries, now operating in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Michigan, with plans to move in the near future to several other states.

“We are delighted to have Karin join our company as a senior executive in this most vital role,” said Eric Hausler, Greenwood Racing chief executive officer. “Her considerable experience in supporting gaming operations in numerous states for Penn National Gaming will be invaluable to Greenwood Racing’s continued growth as it moves forward with expansion into multiple new states.”

Hausler also thanked Bonner for his service in that position and noted that in his new role, Bonner will work closely with the company’s ownership and directors on strategic initiatives and matters of corporate governance. Bonner will also remain a member and secretary of the board of directors of Greenwood Racing Inc.
