Council Rock announces new superintendent

Dr. Andrew J. Sanko, a 33-year employee of the district, will be appointed at an upcoming special meeting

The Council Rock board of school directors announced its intention to formally name Dr. Andrew J. Sanko as the district’s next Superintendent of Schools at a to-be-announced meeting.

Sanko is a 33-year employee of the district, beginning his career as a classroom teacher. He has served as a principal and currently holds the position of Council Rock’s director of K-12 education. His appointment as superintendent follows a national executive search for qualified candidates facilitated by the Bucks County Intermediate Unit.

“It is an honor and privilege to be a part of the Council Rock community and work on behalf of our treasured students,” said Sanko. “My belief is that with a renewed commitment to trust, unity and collaboration, Council Rock can continue to provide an unparalleled educational experience by keeping students first, always.”

Ed Salamon, school board president, said, “We believe Dr. Sanko’s experience, leadership and student-first approach will help the Council Rock community move forward together to meet the challenges ahead and build on the strength of our district’s educational experience.”

Salamon thanked Dr. Susan Elliott, who served as acting superintendent over the last several months following the district’s “amicable separation agreement” with Dr. Robert Fraser in February.

The school board will soon share an invitation with the public to attend a community forum, where they can officially meet Sanko.
