Heritage Conservancy announced the return of its Earth Day in May event, scheduled for Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. inside the Croydon Woods Nature Preserve, 1900 Summit Ave. in Croydon.
Earth Day in May is a celebration of the planet and the southern Bucks County community. This family-friendly event at the 80-acre Croydon Woods Nature Preserve features games, crafts, snacks, nature hikes, prizes, and a ribbon cutting and grand opening of Heritage Conservancy’s new Nature Play Area, which includes a balance beam and other natural obstacles to enjoy. Construction of the Nature Play Area was funded by the Giant Company and Keeping Pennsylvania Beautiful’s Healing the Planet grant program, with additional support from DOW Gives.
“Earth Day in May is an important celebration of the beauty of Croydon Woods Nature Preserve and of our amazing local partners with whom we love working with,” said Kaylyn Brindisi, Heritage Conservancy community programs associate. “Our goal is to invite community members to Croydon Woods to enjoy a day of fun and remind them that the preserve is always here for them to visit and connect with nature.”
As part of the celebration, Heritage Conservancy is hosting its interactive “Life of a Plastic Bottle” demonstration to help families learn about the importance of protecting the Delaware River watershed. Attendees will also receive a “Nature Explorer Guide,” which includes fun activities, educational facts, and encourages kids to stop and visit each event table to collect stamps and win prizes.
Earth Day in May is free to attend. Guided hikes will be available at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The Nature Play Area ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 1 p.m. with a speech from Heritage Conservancy president and CEO Bill Kunze.
