William Tennent students participate in Earth Day partnership

They helped their former fifth grade teacher Mr. Joe Pisacano prepare and host activities for his current students

On Earth Day, April 22, students from William Tennent High School spent the day volunteering with their former fifth grade classroom teacher Mr. Joe Pisacano to provide assistance with Earth Day projects with the current fifth grade students.

Pisacano has been doing this event for approximately 30 years, including 23 at McDonald Elementary School. According to Pisacano, without the help of these students, he would not have been able to have a successful Earth Day celebration.

From the moment the WTHS students arrived, they went to work. They helped their former teacher set up learning activities and showed leadership and initiative. Within 30 minutes, they had every learning center manned, set up and ready for students.

The high schoolers then spent the next five hours teaching and doing projects with the fifth grade students at their chosen center. The fifth graders were very responsive to all of them. Pisacano was proud to see how mature and responsible his former students have become.

“It does my heart good to know that we are graduating some outstanding, caring and loving young adults this year,” he said.
