State Reps. Perry Warren, John Galloway and Tina Davis, along with state Sen. Steve Santarsiero, all D-Bucks, announced the awarding of funds through the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Career and Technical Education Equipment Grant Program to Bucks County Technical High School and Middle Bucks Institute of Technology for equipment purchases to boost student training programs.
Bucks County Technical High School has been allocated $50,000, while Middle Bucks Institute of Technology will receive $46,556.
“The student demand for and interest in career and technical education opportunities is growing,” said Warren. “New equipment will improve and expand hands-on opportunities for students to learn their career field and be fully prepared to enter the workforce.”
“Our young people are our future, so I’m very glad that Bucks County’s career and technical education programs are receiving this needed financial support,” said Galloway. “Thanks to this grant money, our students will be able to get the critical skills and training they need to enter into meaningful, well-paying careers. Bucks County comes out the winner here as a well-trained workforce that will make it attractive to companies as a place to locate. When our workers are thriving, so is Bucks County.”
Grants in the program max out at $50,000 and must be matched dollar-for-dollar by a local source, such as a local business or industry partner.
“The integration of technology and equipment in the classroom provides students with hands-on training for their trades and future careers,” Davis said. “These grants will allow for the purchase of equipment to provide for our students’ educational needs to pursue the career path that is right for them.”
The grants are among those awarded to 39 Career and Technical Centers and three school districts in Pennsylvania.
“Our career and technical school programs prepare students for a variety of careers, with hands-on learning and experience,” said Santarsiero. “These state funds will help ensure that our students receive targeted training with equipment that meets the specific needs of local businesses and industries, and will make them more competitive candidates upon graduation.”
