Silver Lake Nature Center announces events

See what’s happening in March

Volunteer Work Day takes place Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Help SLNC maintain its grounds. Be prepared to get wet and dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle. Give four hours and SLNC will provide lunch. This event is rain or shine. Register online, by phone or at the Visitors’ Building.

Saturday Morning Bird Walks are offered from March through May, at 7:30 a.m. These events are free. Meet outside of the Visitors’ Building, near the parking area.

Look out of the “SLNC Float” at the Bucks County St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 14. The parade starts at Conwell Egan Catholic High School at 10:30 a.m., and ends at Levittown American Baseball Fields on New Falls Road.

Home School Enrichment Series for spring takes place Wednesdays, March 18 through April 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. This is an option for families who take a different approach to educating their children, ages 6-17. The 6-week program provides an opportunity for children to get hands-on experience within the STEM disciplines without formal constraints. Each of the lessons are developed with the PA Standard Aligned System in mind and ensure that children will excel in all settings. Children should dress for the weather and be prepared to get dirty. Cost for members is $100 for the 6-week session, $15 per class on a class-by-class basis. Cost for non-members is $120 for the 6-week session, $18 per class on a class by class basis. Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center’s Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition takes place Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m. to noon. Meet new and current board members and honor volunteers who work hard all year round to keep SLNC beautiful. This event is free for SLNC members and volunteers, but pre-registration is required. Summer Camp Open Houses take place Sunday, March 22, from noon to 5 p.m.; Sunday, April 26, from noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, May 23, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to meet Summer Camp staff, ask questions, get to know SLNC and enter to win a free week of Summer Camp. Spring on the New Silver Lake Trail takes place Saturday, March 28, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Join for a guided hike. The new trail, which opened in November 2019, is a 3.5-mile trail that crosses many different habitats and terrain. The group will keep a brisk pace while enjoying this rugged trail. Dress for the weather. Cost is $3 per person, or $2 per person for Friends of SLNC members. Register online, by phone or at the Visitors’ Building.

White House Chef Tour takes place Saturday, April 18, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Chef Guy Mitchell and Chief Petty Officer Woody Raber are returning for a final encore performance. This year’s special event will be held at Falls Manor Catering, located at 4010 New Falls Road, Bristol. Cost is $50 per person (until March 24, then $55 per person). Ticket price includes a show by the chefs, a buffet lunch and cash bar. Reserve a table for 10 for $450. Tickets are available online, by phone or at the Visitors’ Building.
