Kids love books and they love being read to. Head over to the library and you’ll see evidence of this, with children pulling picture books out of bins or snagging interesting reads off displays, then pushing the chosen books into their caregiver’s hands and asking to be immediately read to, right there in the library.
Now, kids can also enjoy the experience of being read to with read-along books from the library.
Bucks County Free Library’s read-along collection includes both print and eBooks. VOX read-along books are hardcover print books that talk. Each VOX book has an audio recording built into it – no CD player or digital device is needed. Kids just plug in a pair of headphones or use the built-in speaker to hear the narration. VOX books can be charged with any standard micro-USB charger.
With more than 100 different VOX titles that include both fiction and non-fiction picture books, caregivers can check out timeless favorites, such as Goodnight Moon and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, as well as newer popular titles, such as I Am Enough and The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors.
Stories also come to life with read-along eBooks that feature professionally-recorded narration that plays along while a child reads. Many read-along eBooks also highlight text as the narrator reads, so kids can follow along.
Studies show that read-alongs improve reading comprehension, get young children excited about reading, and can help them better understand sentence structure, language flow and syntax.
