Bucks hosts free information sessions about Nurse Aide Training

Learn how to get started in the high-demand field March 10 at Lower Bucks

Bucks County Community College invites the public to learn more about its Nurse Aide Training Program at three information sessions in March.

The nurse aide functions in a number of healthcare settings, ranging from home care to nursing homes to hospitals, according to program coordinator Karen Souvigney.

“The role of the nurse aide within these settings is crucial as they are the key providers of bedside care,” said Souvigney. “Nurse aide training also provides a gateway into the nursing profession, and can be a stepping stone for those who are considering that career path.”

Souvigney will share more information about the intensive 120-hour course, which is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, at free information sessions at 6 p.m. on the following dates:

– Monday, March 9, Room 257 at the Upper Bucks Campus, One Hillendale Road, Perkasie
– Tuesday, March 10, Room 206 at the Epstein Campus at Lower Bucks, 1304 Veterans Highway, Bristol
– Thursday, March 12, Founders Hall Room 015 at the Newtown Campus, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown

The information sessions are free and open to the public, but registration is requested. To sign up, email your name and phone number to nurseaide@bucks.edu or call 215-968-8482.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for nurse assistant occupations is immediate, with an expected job growth rate of 21 percent over the next decade – faster than the average for all occupations. The average starting wage can range from $14 to as high as more than $20 an hour.

Nurse aide training at Bucks consists of classroom instruction, laboratory experience, and hands-on training at an area clinical site. Upon successful completion of the program, students are eligible to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination to enroll in the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide registry.
