Meet the SLNC Exhibit Animals on Saturday, Feb. 8, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Did you know that SLNC is home to some remarkable reptiles and fish? Come visit the resident Education Animals with the animal caretaker. Take a tour of the exhibits and learn more about box turtles, aquatic turtles, native fish, crayfish and snakes. Enjoy this opportunity to see the animals up close and ask questions about scaly friends who live inside the Visitors Building. Bird Seed Sale Pick-up (for orders placed by Feb. 8) takes place Saturday, Feb. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bird watching is more fun when you can attract them to your own yard, so fill your feeders with one of SLNC’s special mixes. Special Presentation: The History of Silver Lake by Local Historian Clarence King takes place Saturday, Feb. 15, at 7 p.m. Due to popular demand, King is returning to share his fascinating presentation on the history of Silver Lake, which will also include Bristol Borough and Bristol Township, spanning the past 300 years. All proceeds from this event benefit the Friends of Silver Lake Nature Center nonprofit organization. Cost is $6 per person, or $5 per person for Friends of Silver Lake members. Maple Syrup Time! takes place Saturday, Feb. 22, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Learn the basic steps of how trees are tapped for their sap so that it can be turned into delicious syrup. Help in the process of making this wonderful delight, and taste some samples too. Cost is $3 per person, or $2 per person for Friends of Silver Lake members. Bristol Photographers Club’s 46th Annual Photo Contest Awards Ceremony takes place Saturday, Feb. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get your photos ready for this fun event. Kids’ Nature Day takes place Monday, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Why only have camp in the summer when you can do it in all seasons? SLNC’s Kids’ Nature Days are scheduled for days when most schools are off. Each day provides exciting seasonal adventures for children. Staff and campers spend the days exploring the forest, swamps and marsh in all weather. Additional 2020 days are April 9 and 10. Cost is $40 per child per day for 2019 Summer Camp Families, $50 per child per day for Friends of Silver Lake members, and $65 per child per day for non-members. Balance must be paid in full at the time of registration. For a “buy three, get one free” deal, pay in full at the time of registration in order to qualify for a free Kids’ Nature Day. Winter Homeschool Enrichment Series takes place Wednesdays through Feb. 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. This is an option for families who take a different approach to educating their children, ages 6-17. This program provides an opportunity for children to get hands-on experience within the STEM disciplines without formal constraints. Each of the lessons are developed with the PA Standard Aligned System in mind and ensure that children will excel in all settings. Children should dress for the weather and always be prepared to get dirty. Cost for members is $100 for the whole session, or $15 per class.
