Andy Meehan, an investment advisory firm president and the Republican challenger in the 1st Congressional District, is accusing GOP U.S. Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of “mastering the Arlen Specter two-step.”
Specter served as a liberal Republican U.S. senator from Pennsylvania before switching to the Democratic Party late in his career.
“My opponent is running Facebook ads in the district bragging about opposing impeachment. Not only is this a ridiculously low bar for a ‘Republican’ congressman, but it contradicts his own statements calling for more investigations into the president and his explicit refusal to rule out voting for impeachment,” Meehan said.
“He has voted to condemn the president as racist, opposed the terrorist travel ban and opposed building the wall. It’s time for the 1st District to nominate a Republican who acts like one.”
There are four Democrats running, so far. They are technology consultant Skylar Hurwitz; Christina Finello, an Ivyland councilwoman and deputy director of the Bucks County Department of Housing and Human Services; Pennsbury School Board member Debbie Wachspress; and Bucks County Prothonotary Judi Reiss.
The district includes all of Bucks County and a portion of Montgomery County.
The primary is April 28. ••
