For the past 16 years, the High Heel Drag Race has been an all-inclusive event, representing the diversity and acceptance of all that is indigenous to New Hope. This year’s High Heel Drag Race will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 4:30 p.m. All participants are dressed in costumes and wearing 3-inch (or taller) high heels. Runners carry a pumpkin up the hill on W. Mechanic St., decorate the pumpkin, and race back down the hill.
“We invite the crowd to wear costumes, dance and have fun. It’s always an exciting time and we look forward to seeing everyone,” said Elisa Fusco, race coordinator.
Directly after the race, the festivities continue with a lively fall-themed after-party, hosted by Havana at 105 S. Main St. at 6:30 p.m. There is an awards ceremony, live DJ, light bites and a cash bar. A $5 donation is suggested at the door. Meet Sapphira Cristal – Miss New Hope Celebrates 2019 – and all the fabulous drag kings and queens. The winners of the race will be announced and prizes awarded at 7:30 p.m.
High Heel Drag Race participants must register online. A $25 non-refundable registration fee is required in advance and is limited to the first 15 people. All proceeds from the race benefit New Hope Celebrates.
Race participants should arrive at 4:15 p.m. to check in. This is a rain or shine event. Visit newhopecelebrates.com for more information.
