Rep. Wendi Thomas (R-Bucks) has created an online petition on her website to formally request the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission reduce tolls for Pennsylvania residents who use the PA E-ZPass system when crossing the Scudder Falls Bridge.
The petition can be found at repthomas.com/form/ScudderBridgeE-ZPassPetition.
Currently, only commuters using the New Jersey-based NJ E-ZPass transponder system will receive an additional commuter discount of 40 percent when making a minimum of 16 tolled trips across the Scudder Falls Bridge or other DRJTBC toll bridges within a calendar month.
PA E-ZPass holders will not receive this discount. To get the discount, current PA E-ZPass users would have to purchase a second transponder.
In a letter, co-signed by Rep. Gene DiGirolamo (R-Bucks), to Joseph Resta, executive director of the DRJTBC, Thomas demanded the DRJTBC rectify this.
“The toll on the new bridge will have a major impact on local commuters,” Thomas said. “It’s patently unfair not to offer the commuter discount to Pennsylvania commuters using the PA E-ZPass system.”
Thomas, who is working with County Commissioner Rob Loughery on this issue, was alerted to the inequity by constituents and has been working with the DRJTBC and other local officials to make the system more equitable.
In the meantime, she will deliver the petitions to DRJTBC to urge them to correct this inequality.
The Scudder Falls Bridge is currently undergoing a major rehabilitation.
