“Secret Codes of Slaves and the Underground Railroad” will take place Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. at the Middletown Friends Meetinghouse, 453 W. Maple Ave., Langhorne.

Most African American slaves were not taught to read or write, but that didn’t stop them from communicating vital information to those escaping freedom. Esteemed quilter and president of the African American Museum of Bucks County, Linda Salley, will present the many ways enslaved people sent signals to one another, including messages embedded in quilts.

This program is co-sponsored by Langhorne Council for the Arts and Middletown Friends Meeting to celebrate both Black History Month and Women’s History Month. Proceeds will support the African American Museum of Bucks County and the Langhorne Council for the Arts student scholarship fund.

A donation of $5 per person is requested at the door. Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call 215–752–0854. In the event of inclement weather, postponement will be announced at langhornearts.org.

Donations of art supplies will be welcomed for PEACE of PAPER, a nonprofit that provides materials for creative expression to children and adults in Bucks County in need of support in times of distress, including unstable housing situations, poverty, and/or following violence and trauma.
