Bucks County Student-Athletes Deliver Top Performances in Sports

Winter break hasn’t slowed Bucks County’s student-athletes, who have delivered some top sports performances across basketball and wrestling this past week.

Bucks County high school sports continue to thrive, with standout players setting records and showcasing their skills.

In boys’ basketball, Jaden Luchansky from Harry S. Truman scored 24 points, 20 of them in the first half, leading the Tigers to a 77-61 win over Faith Christian.

His teammate Julian Rodgers dominated defensively with 10 rebounds and four steals in the same game.

Bensalem’s Amir Drummond posted 17 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds against Pennsbury and added 22 points in a win over Truman.

Hatboro-Horsham’s Shane Phillips secured a fourth-quarter surge with nine of his 17 points to defeat Quakertown 48-41.

At Pennsbury, Mike Roccograndi scored 24 points in a 75-55 rivalry win over Neshaminy, while freshman Pat Jajua contributed 15 points, eight rebounds, and six assists.

CR South’s MJ Thompson delivered back-to-back high-scoring games with 28 points against Truman and 27 in a win over CR North.

In girls’ basketball, Maya Johnson from Abington shattered the school record for career assists, reaching 341 while adding 14 points and 11 assists in a win over Wissahickon.

Her teammate, Mikiaya Durham, scored 30 points in the same game. And Ella Brown of Pennridge is averaging 24 points this season, including a 26-point game in a victory against Faith Christian.

Archbishop Wood’s Emily Knouse and Colleen Besachio shone at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona, leading their team against nationally ranked opponents.

Knouse scored 19 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Princeton (Ohio), while Besachio contributed with points, rebounds, assists, and steals.

In girls’ wrestling, Julia Horger of Conwell-Egan claimed the 110-pound championship at the Beast of the East tournament, finishing 5-0 with three pins.

Caroline Hattala of Quakertown dominated the 190-pound bracket, winning all matches by pin, while Souderton’s MacKenna Atkinson claimed the 235-pound title with an 18-second pin in her final match.

For boys’ wrestling, Freddy Bachmann of Faith Christian went undefeated at Beast of the East and won the 113-pound title in his debut season.

His teammate Adam Waters claimed the 190-pound title and celebrated his 100th career win.

At the Carlisle Classic, CB East’s Chase Williams won the 107-pound championship with a 35-second pin, while CB West’s Chris Dennis took the 160-pound title to remain undefeated.

Bucks County high school sports continue to excel as student-athletes deliver thrilling and unforgettable moments.

The polls for Boys and Girls Athlete of the Week remain open until Monday at 8 p.m.
