On Flag Day, Wednesday June 14, active duty military personnel stood at the entrance of Sesame Place, ready to hand each child and parent a small American flag to observe the national celebration. Beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing throughout the day, 2,000 flags were distributed to guests as they arrived for a day of excitement. The flag distribution is part of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment’s Waves of Honor Program.
Waves of Honor permits any U.S. active duty military, activated or drilling reservist, or National Guardsman to one complimentary admission per year to either SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, Adventure Island, Water Country USA, Sesame Place or Aquatica SeaWorld’s Waterpark in San Diego for military personnel and as many as three direct dependents. Any active duty, active reserve, ready reserve service member or National Guardsman representing any of the five service branches is entitled to free admission under the program. He or she need only register, either online at www.wavesofhonor.com or in the entrance plaza of a participating park, and show a Department of Defense photo ID.
The program is a tribute to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces including active duty military, reserve soldiers, airmen, Marines, sailors and Coast Guardsmen.
