The Pennsbury Partners Program celebrated its 19th annual partnership recognition event on Tuesday, April 17 at William Penn Middle School. As in previous years, awards were presented to one outstanding business partner and one outstanding nonprofit partner of the year. The 2018 celebration also featured musical entertainment by members of the Pennsbury Concert Jazz Band. The event was organized by Ann Langtry, supervisor of communication strategies, and Robin Peters, partnership program assistant.
“In addition to benefiting students, partnering with Pennsbury offers many advantages for community agencies and business,” Langtry said. “Partnerships with Pennsbury offer image enhancement opportunities, provide greater visibility in the community, and offer the personal satisfaction that together, we are helping to shape the workforce of the future.”
The recipients of the outstanding partnership awards for the 2017–2018 school year included Barnes and Noble — Oxford Valley, Business Partner of the Year, and St. Mary Medical Center, Nonprofit Partner of the Year.
A brief video presentation outlined the many ways that both Partners of the Year benefit the students and families of Pennsbury. Barnes and Noble — Oxford Valley, for example, helps to raise funds for Pennsbury schools through book fairs and other in-store events. The store’s community relations manager, Debbi Carr, also schedules author visits and literary character appearances in schools, in addition to hosting booths at STEM and STEAM fairs across the district.
St. Mary Medical Center leads multiple, ongoing family wellness programs that impact Pennsbury families. This year, the St. Mary Foundation funded professional training for elementary school recess aides through a group called Playworks, in addition to providing on-site clinical counseling at Pennsbury High School for students and families through a grant to the Family Service Association of Bucks County.
This year’s premier event sponsors were ShopRite of Yardley, D’Huy Engineering, Inc., and KidsCare of Pennsbury. Funds provided by these sponsors, and all of the 2018 advertisers, will enable the Partnership Program to provide mini-grants to Pennsbury teachers in the coming school year.
Over the last two decades, the Pennsbury Partners Program has grown to be a highly successful collaborative effort involving more than 1,000 partners in the Pennsbury community. For more information about the program, visit pennsburysd.org > Departments > Pennsbury Partners Program.
