The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) Engineering District 6 team is nearing the end of the 2025 construction season that will include 56 new contracts worth more than $1.2 billion, to improve travel and safety on state highways and bridges across Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties.
“This year we continued to advance our infrastructure program with 128 projects underway worth more than $3.4 billion across the region,” said PennDOT District 6 Executive Din Abazi. “This investment highlights our progress, care, and commitment to building, preserving, and improving safety and dependability on our roadway network. We thank the public for their patience throughout the construction season and thank our team and industry partners for their diligence and dedication delivering these projects.”
PennDOT has been hard at work improving Pennsylvania’s roads and bridges throughout the year, improving more than 5,700 miles of road, including over 1,700 miles of paving, and beginning work to repair, replace, or preserve 396 bridges from January through November of this year.
Under the Shapiro administration, 17,722 miles of roadway have been improved and work has advanced on 1,540 state and local bridges.
Overall highlights in the 2025 construction season for District 6 from January through mid-December include:
- 56 projects put out to bid totaling $1.26 billion.
- 31 construction contracts completed or substantially completed for highway, bridge, and other improvements through PennDOT’s private-sector partners.
- 36 bridges were replaced or preserved.
- 200 miles paved.
- 246 miles of roadway maintenance performed.
Some of the most notable projects that were completed or substantially completed this year include:
- U.S. 1 RC2 Improvement Project, Bensalem and Middletown townships, Bucks County, $116 million.
- Route 309/63 Connector Phase 2, Franconia and Hatfield townships, Montgomery County, $43.2 million.
- South Creek Road Bridge Replacement, Pennsbury Township, Chester County and Chadds Ford Township, Delaware County, $15.4 million.
- Elm Street/Markley Street over Stony Creek Bridge Rehabilitation, Norristown, Montgomery County, $7.9 million.
- Route 82 (Doe Run Road) Bridge Replacement, West Marlborough Township, Chester County, $1.3 million.
Some of the most notable projects that began construction or were bid this year include:
- I-95 Reconstruction Section BR3, Philadelphia, $356.4 million.
- I-95 Reconstruction Section AF3, Philadelphia, $311.3 million.
- Girard Point Bridge Improvements, Philadelphia, $261.4 million.
- U.S. 322 over CSX Bridge Replacement, Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, $63.4 million.
- Ridge Pike and Germantown Pike Intersection Improvements, Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, $26.2 million.
- Brownsville Road Bridge Replacement, Lower Southampton and Middletown townships, Bucks County, $11.2 million.
- U.S. 30 (Exton Bypass) Sinkhole Remediation, West Whiteland and East Caln townships, Chester County, $6.8 million.
Some of the most notable projects that continued construction this year include:
- I-95 CAP, Philadelphia, $329 million.
- U.S. 322 Improvement Project, Upper Chichester Township, Delaware County, $99.4 million.
- U.S. 422 Improvement Project, Lower Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, $83.6 million.
- Route 420 Bridge Replacements, Prospect Park Borough and Tinicum Township, Delaware County, $35.8 million.
- Five-Points Intersection Safety Improvement Project, Montgomery Township, Montgomery County, $14.2 million.
- U.S. 202/Route 926 Intersection Safety Improvement Project, Thornbury and Westtown townships, Chester County, $2.9 million.
