State and local officials joined community supporters on Friday to celebrate the opening of Federation Housing’s newest senior living community, the Daniel B. Green House. The 60-unit community, located at 4695 Somerton Road in Trevose, will help address the Philadelphia region’s growing demand for affordable housing for older adults.
Dedicated to providing housing for individuals who meet low-income housing requirements, the community will allow older adults to remain close to family, friends, and neighborhood staples without fear of being priced out of their community.
“The senior population deserves to age with dignity in the communities they’ve helped shape, regardless of their financial circumstances,” said Eric D. Naftulin, Executive Vice President of Federation Housing. “The Daniel B. Green House reflects our commitment to expand access to affordable, high-quality housing and enrich our relationship with the greater Trevose community.”
The community is named in honor of Daniel B. Green, the late Chairman of Firstrust Bank, local philanthropist, and one of the founding Board members of Federation Housing, serving since 1977. It is the third Federation Housing community dedicated to the Green family, joining the Samuel A. Green House and the Florence E. Green House, and continues the family’s longstanding commitment to affordable senior housing and community betterment. The Daniel B. Green House shares a campus with the Florence E. Green House, named after Green’s late wife.

In Bucks County, the housing market is continuing its upward trend, with affordable housing options being severely limited. According to the Bucks County Association of REALTORS® (BCAR), the median sold price for residential properties in September was $510,000, which is 6.3% higher than last September.
The Daniel B. Green House was made possible through the support of the Green Family Foundation, the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, Bucks County, Wells Fargo, and the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency. Financing was provided by Firstrust Bank.

In addition to the Daniel B. Green House, Federation Housing has developed, built, and currently manages 12 senior-living communities, serving more than 1,500 residents who meet the income qualifications and rent levels. Federation Housing acknowledges that even in large, wealthy counties, the affordable housing crisis is present and only getting worse.
Federation Housing also provides its communities with programs and services for its residents, including social services, free van transportation, meal programs, housekeeping services, religious activities, socialization services, recreational activities, and many others.
