SEPTA is reminding customers that full service will be restored this Sunday, Sept. 14, including the 20% Bus and Metro service cuts that started on Aug. 24.
The 21.5% system-wide fare increase will also be implemented on Sept. 14. The new base fare for Bus and Metro trips will be $2.90.
New schedules and fare prices are now available at septa.org/news/restored-service-schedules.
With no prospects for a legislative solution that would help address SEPTA’s structural budget deficit, PennDOT this week approved SEPTA’s request to use up to $394 million of its capital assistance funding to support operations. Coupled with additional revenue from the fare increase, SEPTA will be able to utilize these funds to avoid service cuts for two years.
This is a one-time fix – not a long-term solution to transit funding. SEPTA will continue to work with lawmakers and other stakeholders to secure a sustainable revenue source for transit throughout the Commonwealth. In the meantime, SEPTA will be able to keep service stable for riders, and continue to work on efforts to improve service reliability, and enhance safety, security, and cleanliness on the system.
To prepare for the service restoration on Sunday, SEPTA is working to ensure all safety-sensitive systems, including signal and dispatch systems, are updated with new schedule data. In addition to the new timetables, SEPTA encourages customers to use the online Trip Planner.
