State Rep. Jim Prokopiak and state Sen. Steve Santarsiero yesterday celebrated the announcement that Falls Township has been selected as one of the first sites for Amazon Web Services’ multi-billion-dollar expansion of high-tech data center campuses across Pennsylvania.
Gov. Josh Shapiro announced that Amazon plans to invest at least $20 billion to establish cutting-edge cloud computing and artificial intelligence innovation campuses across the Commonwealth—marking the largest private sector investment in Pennsylvania’s history. Falls Township in Bucks County and Salem Township in Luzerne County will be the first two communities to host these state-of-the-art facilities, which will create at least 1,250 high-paying technology jobs, as well as thousands of union construction jobs. Multiple additional Pennsylvania communities are under consideration.
The proposed facility will be in the Keystone Trade Center, formerly the site of U.S. Steel.
“Amazon’s choice of investing in the former Fairless Works site in Falls Township is an example of what can happen when local and state officials work together to create a business-friendly environment,” Prokopiak said. “I want to thank the governor for being a tireless champion for the people of Bucks County, and Amazon for their investment in the Lower Bucks community. This is the next step in taking a site that once was home to 20th Century jobs that were lost and creating good-paying 21st Century jobs.”
The investment will bring significant economic development, workforce training opportunities, and long-term tax benefits to the township and surrounding communities. State and local leaders have worked closely with Amazon and the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development to secure the project.
“I’m proud of the role I played in 2019 to revive the Keystone Opportunity Zone at the former U.S. Steel site in Falls Township that paved the way for the construction of this new data center there,” Santarsiero said. “This significant investment will bring thousands of high tech and constructions jobs to Lower Bucks County and boost our local economy. I applaud Governor Shapiro for his leadership and commitment to get this done.”
Falls Township officials have already begun working on site development and local permitting in partnership with state agencies to ensure the project moves forward efficiently and sustainably.
“This is just the beginning,” Prokopiak said. “Bucks County is ready to lead the next generation of technological innovation, and this project puts us on the map.”
Shapiro’s administration has prioritized economic competitiveness by streamlining permitting processes and supporting site readiness. Since taking office, the administration has secured over $25.2 billion in private investment and helped create nearly 11,000 new jobs.
AWS’s selection of Falls Township reaffirms the region’s growing reputation as a hub for advanced technology and AI infrastructure. The company has already invested more than $26 billion in Pennsylvania since 2010.
