PECO Launches More Than 70 Infrastructure Projects in Bucks County

Date:

May 20, 2025

In recognition of National Infrastructure Week, which was celebrated last week with a focus on “Building for Tomorrow, Today,” PECO is highlighting its continued investment in infrastructure upgrades across southeastern Pennsylvania, including Bucks County. These improvements are designed to reduce outages, modernize critical systems, and deliver safe, reliable service in the face of increasing customer needs and more frequent extreme weather.

In 2025, PECO is implementing a wide range of projects in Bucks County to reinforce both its electric and natural gas systems. These efforts are part of a larger commitment to invest approximately $9.3 billion over the next five years to complete targeted system enhancements and corrective maintenance, invest in new equipment, inspect equipment, and perform necessary tree pruning and other vegetation management.

In Bucks County, this work includes more than 70 active or upcoming projects focused on system reliability and performance. Examples include:

  • Lower Makefield Township: Upgrading underground electric cable and associated equipment to reduce service interruptions.
  • Morrisville Borough: Replacing aging natural gas mains with modern plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable, improves service, and reduces methane emissions.
  • Warwick Township Township: Replacing poles, aerial and underground cables, and installing new manhole covers.

To enhance electric reliability, PECO continues to install automated devices known as reclosers that help detect and isolate outages. In 2024, more than 400 new reclosers were deployed. These devices prevented 1.1 million power interruptions last year.

PECO also continues to accelerate work to replace existing natural gas main and service lines with new plastic pipe, which enhances safety, is more durable, improves service, and reduces methane emissions. In 2024, PECO completed 292 projects to replace nearly 329,000 feet of existing natural gas lines.

In addition to electric and natural gas work, PECO is executing a strategic tree and vegetation management program to help enhance reliability. Trees and other vegetation account for approximately 40 percent of power outages, which is why addressing trees surrounding aerial power lines is an integral part of PECO’s commitment to enhancing service reliability, extending beyond regular equipment maintenance and repairs.

In addition to improving reliability, PECO’s investments help drive job creation and economic development throughout the region. The company’s Workforce Development team partners with community organizations and training programs to increase access to skilled energy careers, especially in historically underserved areas.
