Four Bucks County high school football standouts have earned spots on the East roster for the PSFCA All-Star match, set for May 18 at Chapman Field in Cumberland Valley High School, Silver Spring Township.
Neshaminy’s Connor Frederick, Central Bucks South’s Nick Micewski, and CB East’s Brody Wojnicki will compete in the big-school game, while Morrisville’s Raymond Holman is slated for the small-school contest.
The East-West PSFCA All-Star Game, started in 2001 and modeled after the Big 33, gives more players a chance to compete and showcase their talent beyond the usual roster limits.
Last season, the East edged the big-school game 15-14, and the West won the small-school matchup 27-24.
Bucks County’s best athletes have also made their mark in recent playoff action across several sports.
In girl’s basketball, Pennsbury’s Sammie Haws scored 15 first-half points to help her team take control early. Ava Jordan followed with 11 of her 13 points before halftime, leading to a 53-28 win over William Tennent.
On the boys’ side, Pennsbury’s Grayson Gozum posted 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in a win over Great Valley.
In wrestling, Souderton’s Kayla Husti-Luca secured the 130-pound title with a pin that came in just 55 seconds, and on the indoor track front, Katie Sautter of Archbishop Wood won gold in the 3,000-meter run at the Philadelphia Catholic League Championships.
In Southern California, the high school basketball playoffs in the Southern Section have delivered a series of closely contested games.
In Friday’s open division fourth-round contests, Notre Dame defeated Harvard-Westlake 68-61, and Santa Margarita edged La Mirada by the same score.
In Division 1, Los Alamitos defeated Crean Lutheran 82-57, while in Division 2AA, Orange County Pacifica Christian beat Corona Centennial 72-51.
Several games are scheduled for Saturday as teams in both boys’ and girls’ divisions continue to advance through the playoffs.
