Jeffrey Steigerwalt: From Humble Beginnings to Banking Leadership

Jeffrey Steigerwalt, the Regional President at Mid Penn Bank, reflects on his inspiring journey from Havertown to a top leadership role at the bank.

Born in Darby, Pennsylvania, and raised in Havertown, his early life was deeply influenced by the Catholic community and a strong family work ethic.

His upbringing revolved around Sacred Heart Parish, where sports and community activities played a big role in shaping his character.

Steigerwalt’s work ethic was instilled early.

Starting at 12, he worked construction jobs, cut lawns, and helped out at a local deli.

It was these experiences that taught him the value of hard work, a lesson reinforced by his father, who set high expectations for self-sufficiency.

After high school at Episcopal Academy, Steigerwalt attended Widener University, where he navigated the technological revolution of the 1990s, witnessing the rise of the internet and early advancements in computing.

His career in banking began with a recommendation from his mother-in-law, leading to his first position at Roxborough Manayunk Bank.

Over the years, Jeffrey Steigerwalt honed his retail banking, commercial lending, and business development skills through roles at Citizens Bank, HSBC, and Allegiance Bank.

These positions introduced him to mentors who helped shape his career and deepened his understanding of community banking.

Now a key figure in Bucks County leadership, Steigerwalt oversees Mid Penn Bank’s expansion in the South Jersey and Philadelphia markets.

His leadership demonstrates a community-centric approach that prioritizes relationships over rigid financial criteria.

Steigerwalt credits Mid Penn’s President, Rory Ritrievi, for fostering a collaborative, forward-thinking culture.

The bank’s investments in innovative technology, like live-teller ATMs, and its in-house training program, Mid Penn University, greatly impacted its growth.

Looking back on his journey, Steigerwalt’s experience with Bucks County politics and economic hurdles has shaped his knack for cutting through red tape and building stronger community connections.

Under his guidance, Mid Penn Bank continues solidifying its presence in the region, with its recent merger with William Penn Bank expanding its footprint further.
