Bucks County Launches Fire Service Advisory Board

The Bucks County Commissioners have made a significant move to support the Bucks County fire service by creating the Fire Service Advisory Board (FSAB), a new body tasked with addressing the pressing challenges faced by local fire departments.

This seven-member board brings together career and volunteer fire chiefs whose peers choose to represent the diverse needs of the county’s fire community.

Their mission is to strengthen operations, foster collaboration, and advocate for the evolving needs of the fire service.

The Fire Service Advisory Board will act as a unified voice and offer strategic advice and feedback to county officials.

Chair Adam Selisker, chief of the Northampton Township Fire Department, spoke about the collective approach, and he put emphasis on the fact teamwork and communication are essential for the continued success of the Bucks County Fire Service.

This initiative comes in response to significant changes in the field.

A decline in volunteer firefighters and the growing need for career staffing have intensified the demand for structured support.

George Wilson, Bucks County’s interim Director of Emergency Management, outlined the FSAB’s key focus areas, including firefighter training, resource coordination, and long-term strategic planning to ensure fire departments are equipped to meet community needs.

The Commissioners unanimously approved the FSAB during a public meeting, praising the dedication of its members.

Commissioner Vice Chair Bob Harvie expressed his gratitude, as he commended the board for stepping up to help shape a stronger future for the Bucks County fire service.

The FSAB’s voting members include Chair Adam Selisker of Northampton Township Fire Department, Co-Chair Gary Laird of Penndel Fire Company, Scott Fleischer of Point Pleasant Fire Company, Glenn Forsyth of Newtown Fire-Rescue, Robert Sponheimer of Bensalem Fire Rescue, Keith Butler of Milford Township Volunteer Fire Company, and Tim Brewer of Upper Makefield Fire Company.

Each brings expertise and a shared commitment to advancing the fire service.

The Bucks County Fire Service Advisory Board marks a proactive step in addressing the needs of local fire departments, uniting teams across the county to navigate changes in staffing and resources.

With this initiative, the county is setting the stage for stronger collaboration, improved training, and a more robust response system, all driven by thoughtful engagement the dedicated efforts of its fire service leaders.
