Bucks County Playhouse Brings ‘Anastasia’ to Life

The Bucks County Playhouse is charming audiences with its magical production of Anastasia: The Musical, a captivating Bucks County show that takes theatergoers on a journey from the fall of the Russian Empire to the glitz and glamour of 1920s Paris.

In the heart of New Hope Borough, this Anastasia show opened in late November and will continue to enchant audiences until Sunday, January 5, 2025.

This Anastasia show shares the captivating story of Anya, a young woman determined to unlock the mysteries of her past while being pursued by a steadfast Soviet officer.

With its rich themes of resilience, romance, and mystery, the production comes alive through a stunning score and heartfelt performances that have made it a show to remember.

Created by the Tony Award-winning team behind Ragtime, the musical covers a book by four-time Tony winner Terrence McNally and music and lyrics by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.

The Bucks County Playhouse production, directed by Eric Rosen and choreographed by Al Blackstone, gives a fresh, vibrant take on this Broadway favorite.

Leading the charge in the show is Lyda Jade Harlan, who steps into the role of Anya with grace and emotional depth in her debut at the playhouse.

Her performance radiates a powerful mix of vulnerability and determination, capturing the heart of the story. And surrounding her is an exceptional ensemble that elevates the production to new heights.

Christine Toy Johnson lends a regal elegance to the role of the Dowager Empress, while Kate Marilley brings sharp wit and charisma as Countess Lily.

Mason Reeves infuses Dmitry with charm and complexity, perfectly complementing Erik Lochtefeld’s warm and humorous portrayal of Vlad.

Roe Hartrampf rounds out the cast with a commanding presence as Gleb.

Not to mention, special moments have added extra sparkle to the production’s run.

During opening night celebrations, Christy Altomare, Newtown resident and Broadway’s original Anastasia, ceremoniously passed the torch to Harlan in a heartwarming event at Oldestone Steakhouse.

And last Sunday, Tony Award-winning lyricist Lynn Ahrens visited the cast after a matinee and shared insights from her Broadway experience.

Tickets for the remaining performances start at $39 and are available through the Bucks County Playhouse box office by calling 215-862-2121 or visiting BucksCountyPlayhouse.org.

Don’t miss this mesmerizing Anastasia show as it wraps up its run in January—it’s an extraordinary show you won’t soon forget.
