Bucks County basketball fans saw a major turnaround as the Central Bucks South boys’ team, after an 0-3 start, dominated undefeated rival CB East with a 61-37 victory.
The SOL Colonial opener marked the Titans’ first win against CB East during Louie Ditri’s three-year tenure as head coach.
The Titans entered the game fueled by strong practices and a determination to leave their early struggles behind. And that focus translated into an almost perfect performance that stunned even their coach.
“Erik (Henrysen) does a great job with these guys,” Ditri said. “It’s a tough environment to play in. We knew what we could do if we stayed locked in. It was a rough start to the season, but the boys have been locked in.”
Senior Benjamin Harrison led the Titans with 17 points, which helped his team deliver what he called the season’s biggest win so far.
“They were kicking our butts last year and the year before,” Harrison said. “It feels great to come in here and get the biggest win of the year so far.”
Bucks County local sports excitement peaked after the buzzer as CB South students stormed the court to celebrate the victory. “I wasn’t expecting that,” junior forward and defensive specialist Leo Medwid said. “It was really fun.”
The game opened with CB South taking a 10-2 lead, but CB East, led by senior Nolan Behm, narrowed the deficit to 24-20 at halftime.
Behm tied the game at 27 early in the third quarter, and that’s when South launched a decisive 19-3 run.
Sparked by Harrison’s free throws and capped by one of his baskets, the run gave the Titans an insurmountable lead.
“Get after it, get in their face, and not let them run their offense,” Harrison said of the Titans’ game plan. “It was 100 percent accurate.”
The Titans’ relentless defense forced turnovers and secured every loose ball.
Medwid was instrumental in slowing down Behm—East’s leading scorer and a future Pitt baseball player—holding him to just eight points.
Medwid also grabbed five rebounds and contributed to CB South’s 24-15 advantage on the boards.
“It wasn’t just one person; it was everyone,” Medwid said. “We were prepared, switching and everything.”
CB South showcased their depth, with six players scoring at least six points.
Connor Thompson added 10 points, including three clutch 3-pointers.
“We truthfully can go 11, 12 deep,” Ditri said. “They’re pushing each other every day at practice and are all capable of playing.”
With this win, CB South boys’ basketball is 3-3 and poised for a fresh start in the SOL Colonial schedule.
The Bucks County basketball community is taking notice of the Titans’ transformation, with players and coaches crediting their 0-3 start as a catalyst for growth.
“That 0-3 start is something we won’t forget,” Ditri said. “This is the only team I hadn’t beaten. It’s good for us to get it in the first league game.”
