More than 500 locals recently lined up outside 1947 Street Road to give their palates a spicy jolt during the grand opening of Nanu’s Hot Chicken.

Formed in 2023 by brothers Imran, Ikram, Haroon and Nanu Rashid, the eatery has quickly expanded from its inaugural location at 2210 Cottman Ave. to a handful of other spots throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York, with Bensalem as the latest addition to the ever-growing franchise.

For the newest Nanu’s Hot Chicken, Ikram teamed up with Muhammad Faisal, who already owned the locations at 3301 Market St. and 4407 Chestnut St. As a resident of the area, Faisal is thrilled about this next endeavor.

“We are bringing the heat to Bensalem,” he said. “I live in Bucks County near this location and love my local community. I know this area, I know our neighbors and I know my food. I am excited to bring this all together. This is a win-win, as it lets me bring my own community the food that I love. This is living the dream and I am so thankful for this opportunity.”

The menu features halal Nashville-style hot chicken tenders, sandwiches, loaded fries, sides, desserts, smoothies and catering options. Guests can test their taste buds with homemade spice-coated tenders ranging from no spice to reaper, in regular or hot honey.

Takeout, delivery and dine-in options are available, with the dining room encompassing seating for up to 20 people at colorful tables and chairs to complement the massive 270-degree art murals. This backdrop features nods to Philadelphia, including shoutouts to the Phillies, Eagles and 76ers, LOVE Statue and Liberty Bell. Overhead, there is a solar system-inspired ceiling.

Family is at the crux of Nanu’s Hot Chicken. Growing up, the Rashids’ mother often expressed concern to her three eldest boys about their little brother Nanu, who was born with Down syndrome. She feared for Nanu’s wellbeing and how he’d be cared for if something were to happen to her or his father. Now, with the brothers operating a growing business (a ninth location is slated to be announced soon), their mom can have some peace of mind.

The Rashids are using Nanu’s Hot Chicken to not only ensure their brother’s care, but the betterment of the various communities where their business is located. Soon, they plan to unveil a new charity initiative that will support causes close to their hearts.

They said in a statement, “In the future, we plan to start a charity foundation and donate a percentage of all our proceeds to helping those in need. We want to be able to help anyone like Nanu, anyone who may need help. We want to help feed and give aid to those less fortunate here at home or around the world.”

Nanu’s Hot Chicken is open seven days a week, 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. Visit nanushotchicken.com and follow on social media @nanushotchicken for more information.
