United Way of Bucks County is kicking off its Bucks Knocks Out Hunger campaign with a twist this year by hosting a non-event on May 29.
The annual campaign, also known as BKO Hunger, is a fundraiser for local food pantries, a countywide food drive and one-day meal-packing event. Each year, the project brings together thousands of donors, advocates and volunteers to fight hunger in Bucks County.
This year, the nonprofit is introducing a non-event fundraiser to launch the campaign. Community members are invited to choose the meal they would have eaten at a traditional fundraising event and donate the cost to BKO Hunger.
“There’s no need to dress up, fight traffic or find a babysitter when you attend a non-event,” said Marissa Christie, president and CEO of United Way of Bucks County. “Instead, on the day of the non-event, participants can do what makes them happiest, and know that their donation is helping local families access nutritious food.”
Community members interested in joining the non-event can RSVP and donate online at secure.givelively.org/event/united-way-of-bucks-county/bucks-knocks-out-hunger-2024/bucks-knocks-out-hunger-non-event-kickoff. All are welcome to participate. Donations can also be made by mailing a check to United Way of Bucks County, 413 Hood Blvd., Fairless Hills, PA 19030, with BKO Hunger in the memo line.
Supporters can also create their own fundraising pages at secure.givelively.org/donate/united-way-of-bucks-county/bucks-knocks-out-hunger-2024/fundraisers/new and share them to help spread the word and raise critical funds for BKO Hunger.
“We all know people who care. Now, folks can invite their friends, family and anyone else in their networks to join the fight against hunger — and take the night off on May 29,” added Christie.
Funds raised for BKO Hunger provide nutritious options like fresh produce, eggs and dairy to local food pantries, senior centers and United Way’s free mobile farmers market, Fresh Connect.
The BKO Hunger meal-packing event will be held on Friday, June 14, at the Neshaminy Mall. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to register at givepulse.com/event/450184-Bucks-Knocks-Out-Hunger-2024. Volunteers will pack 100,000 shelf-stable meals for mobile and brick-and-mortar food pantries countywide, including United Way’s HELP Center.
