The League of Women Voters of Bucks County is presenting a program on proposed legislation to open primary elections to all registered voters in Bucks County. The program will be aired on Zoom on Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m. Registration for the online program is available at tinyurl.com/cxkck34t. Questions about the program can be directed to lwvbuckspa@gmail.com

The League of Women Voters believes the Pennsylvania primaries should be open to give all citizens, regardless of registration status, the opportunity to participate in the primary of the political party of their choice. According to the league, this is essential in a democracy.

Also according to the league, including unaffiliated voters in the decision-making process at the primary stage is likely to result in more moderate candidates being selected to run in the general election in November. Once elected, more moderate legislators are more likely to look for ways to compromise, thereby avoiding gridlock in Harrisburg.
