Last Monday morning, on Martin Luther King Day, Building A Better Bensalem Together kicked off Unity Week, an annual initiative that invites community members to visit multiple houses of worship, learn about different cultures and, ultimately, unite as a township.
An opening celebration breakfast took place at Parx Casino, welcoming over 200 guests who represented all faith denominations.
During the event, three individuals — Bensalem Police Lt. Michael Schum, councilwoman Michelle Benitez and Parx Casino marketing manager Courtney Collazo — were honored with the Parx Casino “Champion of Diversity” award for their “impact in the community with unity.”
Following the breakfast, and throughout the duration of last week, houses of worship across Bensalem opened their doors to people of any denomination, offering a service and either refreshments, lunch or dinner.
