The Newtown Athletic Club, 120 Pheasant Run, Newtown, invites the community to drop off their handwritten letters to Santa Claus at The Club. Santa’s mailbox, located out front of the main entrance of the NAC, is accepting letters through Dec. 24.
Letters to Santa Claus is a festive initiative for people of all ages. All are welcome to write a special note, draw a picture or share a holiday wishlist in a letter and drop it off in Santa’s magical mailbox.
The official U.S. Postal Service address for Santa Claus is 123 Elf Road, North Pole, 88888.
To guarantee delivery to the North Pole, through USPS Operation Santa, letters must be mailed by Monday, Dec. 12, and include the child’s full name, complete address with zip code and a first-class postage stamp. USPS Operation Santa makes it possible for people to adopt and respond to the letters, fulfilling the holiday wishes of children and families across the country.
Since the program was created in 2017, the goal has always been to help more children and families in need have a happy holiday when they otherwise may not, one letter to Santa at a time.
Every year, thousands of letters addressed to Santa arrive at the Post Office. Shortly after the letters are received, they are then posted on USPSOperationSanta.com, so others can respond to the holiday wishes from their community. USPS Operation Santa invites people to adopt and respond to those letters that are written by children and families. USPS Operation Santa relies solely on random acts of kindness and the generosity of strangers.
A letter to Santa should be placed into an envelope, addressed to Santa’s official address and placed in Santa’s mailbox at the NAC. From there, Santa’s elves at the Post Office sort, read and publish the letters on the website (with personal information redacted). Adopters are then able to browse and select letters they love and respond with a gift and a note.
The letter doesn’t need to say anything specific, but it helps adopters when specific details on child age and gender are specified. Games and book titles, sizes (infant, toddler, teen, etc.), colors, etc. also make it easier for the letter adopter to know what kind of gift to purchase.
