Two men are wanted for a Target robbery on Rockhill Drive; Bensalem K9 Asko is now cancer-free

Bensalem Police are investigating a robbery at the Target located at 800 Rockhill Drive that occurred on Nov. 9. It was reported at 5:40 p.m. that two unknown black males stole numerous Beats headphones totaling about $6,000 and fled the area in a dark colored minivan, possibly a Chrysler. If you have any information about the identity of these individuals, submit an anonymous tip online at bucks.crimewatchpa.com/bensalempd/ or contact Bensalem Police at 215-633-3719.

Bensalem K9 Asko undergoes cancer treatment

Over the summer, Bensalem K9 Asko was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor on his jawbone. The tumor was successfully removed by Dr. David Puerto, of BluePearl Veterinary Hospital in Langhorne. 

In October, K9 Asko then needed to undergo radiation therapy to ensure the cancer cells were eradicated and, over a four-week period, underwent treatments daily. This intense regimen was performed by Dr. Siobhan Haney and the entire staff at BluePearl Veterinary CyberKnife Cancer Center in Malvern. Along the way, Asko made many new friends and received much love. 

K9 Asko has made a full recovery and returned to work with the Bensalem Township Police Department, full duty. 

Arrest

Following an ongoing investigation, Lower Southampton Township Police Detectives arrested Nathan E. Echevarria, 21, of Reading, on Nov. 14, on the following charges: Involuntary Deviate Sexual Assault, Statutory Sexual Assault, Aggravated Indecent Assault, Unlawful contact with minors, Corruption of minors, Criminal Use of Communication Facility and Incedent Assault. 

During the investigation, it was learned that Echevarria arranged to meet with and engage in sexual contact with a juvenile. With the assistance of the Berks County Sheriff’s Department, Echevarria was taken into custody without incident. He was processed and video arraigned, with bail set at $750,000. He was remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility awaiting his day in court. 

Walgreens theft

On Nov. 13, Lower Southampton Police responded to the Walgreens located at Street Road and Bustleton Pike in Feasterville for the report of a retail theft that just occurred. The involved male subject fled the store with merchandise without paying for the items. Officers began to check the area and located the man, who was identified as Dino Funari, 44, who was taken into custody and arrested for retail theft and possession of drugs. During the arrest process, Funari was also found to be a wanted person from Philadelphia. He was transported to the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility in Philadelphia, where he was transferred to their custody. 

Staples theft

On Oct. 26, Lower Southampton Police investigated the report of a theft of printers from the Staples located in Feasterville. The day prior, Luis Rivera, 63, of Philadelphia, fled the Staples without paying for three computer printers. Rivera, who is also wanted by other jurisdictions for previous thefts, was issued a summons to appear in court for retail theft and receiving stolen property.

The Bensalem Township Police Benevolent Association and the Bensalem Township Police Department are expressing gratitude toward the Christian Life Academy for its donation to the BTPBA and for supplying breakfast for all officers and staff. The donation was made on Pancreatic Awareness Day, in memory of Deputy Director David Richardson, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on May 11, 2022.
