Pet adoption event set for Oct. 21

Doll 10 Beauty and Women’s Animal Center are once again partnering for this lifesaving event

Doll 10 Beauty, an internationally selling, cruelty-free cosmetics company based in Bucks County, is partnering with Women’s Animal Center, America’s first animal shelter based at 3839 Richlieu Road in Bensalem, as the sponsor of a free pet adoption event for the community on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Dolls for Paws Adoption Event, hosted at Women’s Animal Center, features coloring activities for the little dolls and dudes, and complimentary refreshments. The main purpose of the event is to place as many shelter animals as possible into loving forever homes. All adoption fees are fully covered by Doll 10 Beauty in support of this lifesaving initiative, as the shelter is contending with an uptick of surrendered stray animals due in large part to financial and personal hardships of pet owners.

“Never take time for granted. Animal shelters across the country are filled with pets that need our time, and the time for us to make a difference is now,” said Dr. Doris Dalton, founder of Doll 10 Beauty and former Mrs. America titleholder.

This marks the fifth annual Dolls for Paws Adoption Event. Twenty-nine shelter pets found new homes at last year’s event.

“Our goal is to top the previous year’s success by uniting even more animals with their forever families in 2023,” said Dalton.

In addition to waived adoption fees, Women’s Animal Center includes spaying or neutering, vaccinations, microchip, discounted veterinary services with 20 percent off first annual physical exam, Doll 10 adoption gift bags and, of course, unconditional love with each shelter pet adopted.

“Women’s Animal Center assists thousands of animals in need throughout the region each and every year, but receives no federal, state or local funding to do so,” said Cathy Malkemes, chief executive officer of the center. “We rely upon the generosity of our community to support our work, so to have a corporate partner and friend to animals like Doll 10 Beauty is truly invaluable to us, and to our animals.”

The partnership between Doll 10 Beauty and Women’s Animal Center bears deeper meaning for the two organizations, in that both were founded by women. Doll 10’s cruelty-free commitment to compassion for all animals is likewise important. Caroline Earle White, who founded Women’s Animal Center in 1869, also established the American Anti-Vivisection Society, dedicated to ending the use of animals in science, education and research.

Interested adopters are encouraged to arrive early on the day of the event and streamline their adoption process by reviewing the shelter’s website in advance for tips on coming prepared. Adoption applications and information on some of the currently adoptable dogs, cats and small domestic animals can be accessed at womensanimalcenter.org.
