“Living Together: Lessons from Lichens” is the featured topic at the monthly meeting of the Trevose Horticultural Society on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Bensalem Senior Center, 1850 Byberry Road.

Guest speaker James Miller will present a lively discussion on the way two simple organisms cooperate for survival in the world of lichens, with an opportunity for audience participation using commonly available props. His presentation will include free samples.

A retired microbiology professor from Delaware Valley University, Miller is enjoying the arts and humanities phase of his life. He has been fascinated by lichens forever and has done research on lichen physiology, particularly nitrogen uptake. Miller has taught classes in American art, as well as in biology, and is an active volunteer at Graeme Park, a colonial historical site in Horsham. He lives in Gwynedd, in a community of lively retirees.

All meetings are open to the public; a donation of $5 is required from non-members. For more information, call 856-866-9163, visit trevosegardeners.org or follow on Facebook.
