Oktoberfest at Neshaminy Creek set for Sept. 30

Enjoy entertainment from Polkadephia, the debut of the Sweet Hell lager and more

The annual Oktoberfest celebration is returning to Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company on Saturday, Sept. 30, from noon to 7 p.m., featuring a new beer release plus returning entertainment favorites, family-friendly festivities, food and music.

Kicking off the entertainment is Polkadephia, which is presenting an eclectic combination of traditional German melodies with modern hits, from 1 to 4 p.m. Activities include a Wiener Toss, Stein Hoisting Competition and Yodeling Contest, all paired with soft pretzels, brats and other tasty treats — including lobster rolls — from local food trucks. Limited edition Oktoberfest shirts and steins will be available for purchase.

Making its debut during the event at the Croydon taproom, 909 Ray Ave., is Sweet Hell, a Smoked Helles Lager brewed with 100 percent Beechwood Smoked Malt, 100 percent Tettnanger hops and 100 percent hellfire. According to brewers, there’s a “treacherous wood smoke aroma and flavor fanning the flames of damnation with a bready malt character and a whisper of noble hops. Sweet Hell’s saving grace is a light body and crisp finish at 5.2 percent ABV that’ll pick you up when you’re down … way down.”

Following the event, it will be distributed at all three taprooms, with limited distribution in Pennsylvania. Also at Oktoberfest, returning autumnal favorites, including Creekfestbier Lager, Churchville Lager, Punkless Dunkel, Young Pumpkinstein and JAWN of the Dead Red Rye IPA, will be available on tap and in cans. Mainstays like Warehouse Lager and Post Up Pils will also be available at the event, among the complete lineup of Creek classics.

“Oktoberfest at the Creek is the ultimate fall kick-off bash and has grown to be one of our most popular events,” said Neshaminy Creek head brewer Jason Ranck. “As our loyal fans know, we love a good excuse for great beer and a party, so we can’t wait to share our new smoked lager during this year’s celebration.”
