The Bensalem Township Police Department, Bensalem Township School District, Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo and members of Building a Better Bensalem Together teamed up to produce an educational video, which showed students the best practices to follow if they are stopped by an officer for a traffic violation.
The video, shown to the students on Friday, June 2, featured three different traffic stop scenarios: one with an uncooperative driver and unruly passengers, one with an unprofessional police officer and one with the “perfect” traffic stop. By viewing these scenarios, Bensalem students gained an understanding of what is expected from them on a traffic stop, and also what they can expect from the police officer.
Once the video concluded, there was a Q&A session between students and police officers.
Bensalem Police and the school district have also produced a Traffic Stop Guidance sheet that covers best practices, worst practices, legal authority and how to file a complaint if you feel you are treated inappropriately or unprofessionally by a Bensalem Township officer. These guidelines were provided to every student that attended the viewing of the educational video.
