The Commonwealth Prevention Alliance recently honored Commissioner Gene DiGirolamo with its “Embodies Amazing” award for his work in substance abuse prevention. He received the award during a CPA event held as part of Prevention Week.
“There may not be a more important and pressing issue in our time than the epidemic of opioids that has been a relentless scourge on our communities both here in Bucks County and all across our country,” said DiGirolamo. “But with so much good work being done on prevention by so many dedicated people all throughout the commonwealth, I am just truly humbled and honored to accept this recognition.”
DiGirolamo has long been a champion of prevention and recovery, both as a state representative and now in Bucks County, where he works together with his fellow county commissioners, Bob Harvie and Diane Ellis-Marseglia, to prioritize those efforts at home.
Also recognized from Bucks County during the same event were prevention supervisor Mallory Perrotti, of the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc., and prevention specialist David Fialko, from The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc.
Perrotti and Fialko were nominated and selected by their peers to receive the “Embodies Amazing” award, as well, recognizing their excellence in prevention work.
The Commonwealth Prevention Alliance is a statewide coalition of prevention professionals and advocates. In a mission statement posted to its website, the group says it aims to “reimagine prevention, advocate for equity and critical resources, and share best and promising practices.”
The CPA event in Montgomery County came just a day after dozens of Bucks County human services and law enforcement agencies marked Prevention Day with a resource sharing event for county employees and community members in Doylestown Borough.
On Prevention Day, the Bucks County Drug and Alcohol Commission, Inc. distributed an estimated 200 free Narcan kits. The lifesaving, overdose-reversing drug is always available free of charge through BCDAC, Inc.
