Bensalem arrests 4 individuals for illegal firearm possession

Three of the arrests were a result of traffic stops

In just over a week, the patrol division of the Bensalem Township Police Department arrested four individuals for illegally possessing firearms. Three of the arrests were a result of traffic stops and the fourth was made during a proactive hotel detail.

All four of the individuals were prohibited from possessing a firearm by PA statute. They were charged with Persons Not to Possess, Use, Manufacture, Control, Sell or Transfer Firearms and related offenses.

The Bensalem Township Police Department employs a proactive policing technique called DataDriven Approaches to Crime and Traffic Safety. The purpose of the program is to identify and conduct high visibility enforcement strategies to work toward reducing crime, violations and crashes. Simultaneously, it extends resources and improves the safety and wellbeing of Bensalem Township residents. Officers are also equipped with the latest technology to detect and deter crime.

Bensalem Police have seen a 75 percent increase in gun seizures over the past two years. The department continues to employ proactive details and techniques to get as many illegal guns off of the street as possible. It also continues to stop vehicles for minor traffic violations and enforce the laws of this commonwealth. Many of the gun seizures are a result of the patrol division conducting traffic stops for the enforcement of minor traffic violations.
