Silver Lake Nature Center announces events

Enjoy a history presentation, fishing day, storytimes and more this spring

Silver Lake Nature Center, 1306 Bath Road in Bristol, announced the following events for spring 2023:

Saturday Morning Bird Walks take place through May, at 7:30 a.m. Bring your binoculars if you have a pair. Meet at the Welcome Kiosk outside of the SLNC Visitors’ Center. Free

Volunteer Work Days take place on the first Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m. to noon, to help keep the SLNC trails and grounds beautiful. Be prepared to get wet and dirty. Bring a refillable water bottle. Rain or shine. Meet at the SLNC Pavilion (near the SLNC Visitors’ Center). Register online or by phone.

Special Presentation: The History of Silver Lake by Local Historian/Photographer Clarence King takes place Saturday, April 29, at 7 p.m. Due to popular demand, King is coming out of “retirement” from SLNC presentations and returning to share his presentation on the history of Silver Lake, which also includes Bristol Borough and Bristol Township, spanning the past 300 years. Space is limited. Register online or by phone. Cost is $10/person. One hundred percent of proceeds benefit the nonprofit Friends of SLNC organization.

Free Family Fishing Day takes place Sunday, May 7, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This informative event is sponsored by the Delaware River Fishermen’s Association. Activities will include learning about fish identification, fishing equipment and fishing techniques. If you have a fishing pole, feel free to bring it. There will also be a limited supply on-hand to use. Participants over 16 years old need to have a valid fishing license in order to fish during the event. The event takes place at Silver Lake, located at Silver Lake Park. Registration is required online or by phone as space is limited.

Earthship Tours take place Saturdays, May 13 and June 10, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Stop by to visit and learn about these interesting, sustainable structures. Tours are free, but donations to the nonprofit Friends of SLNC are appreciated. Register online or by phone.

“IPR Team” Volunteer Project Day takes place Saturdays, May 13 and June 17, from 10 a.m. to noon. The “Invasive Plants Removal Team” now meets once a month to help clear invasive plants from specific areas on the SLNC grounds and trails. Each session brings new plants in various degrees of difficulty, and will also serve as a learning opportunity. These project days also involve planting native trees and plants. Meeting places vary on the SLNC grounds, so be sure to register in advance. Register online or by phone.

Day-off from School Camp takes place Tuesday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. These camp days are scheduled for days when most schools are off. Each day provides seasonal adventure for children ages 5-14. Staff and campers spend the days exploring the forest, swamps and marsh in all weather. Bucks County Yoga Festival takes place Saturday, May 20. A full day of classes and workshops taught by some of the area’s best instructors and facilitators. Yoga, meditation, reiki, energy work, sound healing, lectures, special topics, art therapy and more. Choose your own schedule and create your own experience. Vendor fair and food truck area is open to the public. Classes and workshops are for ticket holders only. Gather with the yoga community at Silver Lake Nature Center and Park. Family-friendly “April Showers Bring May Flowers” Event takes place Saturday, May 27, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Join for a storytime, walnut basket flower craft and search for May flowers. Attendees are invited to arrive early at noon and bring lunch for a picnic at the SLNC Pavilion (nearby to the SLNC Visitors’ Center and the Natural Play Area) with Ms. Trisha. This special program is sponsored by the Kiwanis of Levittown-Bristol and is free to participants. Space is limited; pre-registration is required online or by phone.

Family-friendly “Bug Hike & Craft” Event takes place Saturday, June 10, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Join for a storytime and a search for some bug friends. Attendees are invited to arrive early at noon and bring lunch for a picnic at the SLNC Pavilion (nearby to the SLNC Visitors’ Center and the Natural Play Area) with Ms. Trisha. This special program is sponsored by the Kiwanis of Levittown-Bristol and is free to participants. Space is limited; pre-registration is required online or by phone.

Trails are open daily, from sunrise to sunset. SLNC Visitors’ Center is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m.
