Newtown Athletic Club is hosting its first 5K chip timed race and 1-mile family fun walk/run on Sunday, April 30, at 9 a.m. at the NAC, 120 Pheasant Run, Newtown. Proceeds benefit the NAC Have a Heart Foundation.
In attendance will be the Matt Belina family. Belina, who bears the title of ALS Warrior, helped fight in Washington, D.C. among others for the Right to Try Bill in 2018 to become law. The bill will give all terminally ill patients in America the “right to try” experimental drugs and medical equipment which have passed Phase 1 FDA Clinical Trials and are now in Phase 2 and 3 Clinical Trials.
The event will feature multiple local small businesses sponsoring the 5K race. Some in attendance will be Pure Green, which offers healthy smoothies, and Jaime Lynn’s Gourmet Popsicle Cart, which will have samples on hand. Bike Works will help lead out the race with their bikes, and Ivy Rehab Physical Therapy will be at the start/finish line to help encourage everyone. McCaffrey’s Food Markets will give out bananas, apples and water bottles to help replenish runners. JP Entertainment will play music. Bucks County Batman and Doylestown Ninja as The Mandalorian will be walking around and taking pictures.
The NAC Have a Heart Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity organization founded more than 20 years ago, whose mission is to identify and raise awareness and funds for causes in the community that affect the quality of life of residents and the world at-large through both advocacy and fundraising. Founded by NAC owner Jim Worthington, his vision was to create a charitable arm of the NAC that would serve the community both locally and nationally. While the foundation supports many causes, it has raised over $5 million for ALS research and, most recently, established the 52K in 52 Weeks campaign, which awards $1,000 each week to a different local charity.
