Bensalem Police, Bensalem Fire Rescue and Bensalem EMS responded on Wednesday, at 9:11 a.m. to 4151 Street Road, Trevose for an active fire with heavy smoke coming from a commercial building. The location was previously occupied by Abbott & Cobb but is currently abandoned and unoccupied.

Upon arrival, Bensalem Fire Rescue and surrounding fire companies responded and were able to extinguish the fire. Preliminary findings show that a demolition company was in the process of demolishing the building when an unknown fuel source was ignited, causing the fire.

No injuries have been reported during this incident.

Bensalem Fire Marshall Robert Sponheimer is on the scene investigating the cause of the fire.

Street Road was closed to traffic in both directions between Kingston Way and Old Lincoln Highway for approximately two hours. The westbound lanes of Street Road remained closed between the onramp to Route 1 South and Old Lincoln Highway.

A Bensalem Township Police officer was involved in a minor traffic crash at Bridgewater Road and Byberry Road while responding to this incident with lights and sirens activated. There were no injuries reported for either driver and only the police vehicle had to be towed from the scene.
