St. Mary Medical Center receives $1 million gift from Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation

The donation will support upgrades to the cardiac catheterization labs at the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center

St. Mary Medical Center has received a gift of $1 million from the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, an independent charitable organization, to support major equipment and software upgrades to the cardiac catheterization labs at the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center. This gift is the single largest donation to date to St. Mary Medical Center’s Heart and Vascular Center Campaign.

Planned upgrades will ensure that cardiovascular patients continue to receive an enhanced patient experience and the best post-operative outcomes possible.

“We are incredibly grateful to the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation for its generous philanthropic support of the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center,” said Michael Magro, DO, president of St. Mary Medical Center. “This gift will have an enormously positive impact on St. Mary’s ability to continue providing our patients with the entire spectrum of cardiac services, through the convenience, completeness and safety of a full-service heart and vascular center.”

Thanks to the BMSF gift, the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center will be enabled to acquire new tools to achieve better visualization of anatomical structures, reduced radiation emissions and seamless integration of software within the cardiac catheterization labs.

Benefits to St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center patients will include:

– Reduce procedure time by 17 percent
– Reduce patient preparation time by 12 percent
– Reduce radiation emissions: 67 percent reduction for cardiac imaging; 83 percent reduction for vascular imaging
– Real-time image processing with greater clarity and quality, which is particularly important as the center addresses more complex procedures than ever before

“In line with our mission to improve the health of vulnerable communities burdened by serious diseases, the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation is gratified to support the work of hospitals like St. Mary Medical Center that demonstrate a firm commitment to their community and to providing all patients with high quality health care regardless of who they are or where they live,” said John Damonti, president of the foundation. “St. Mary is a trusted and vital asset to the community, and we are pleased to help it remain on the cutting edge of technology for heart and vascular care.”

Performing the most cardiovascular procedures in Bucks County, the St. Mary Heart and Vascular Center provides care to more than 20,300 patients annually, including diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation, angina, arrhythmia, heart failure, heart valve disorders, structural heart disease, vascular disease and vein conditions.

St. Mary was the first hospital in Bucks County to successfully implant regular stents, drug-coated stents and bioabsorbable stents, and is nationally recognized as a center for excellence. For the fifth consecutive year, St. Mary Medical Center has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a High Performing Hospital in Heart Failure care.
